Vinous 2026

From 2025 Rheingau & Pfalz: Energy, Ripeness, Brilliance and Speed

By Anne Krebiehl MW | August 2026

REICHSRAT VON BUHL
Harvest began on August 20 with Sekt base for Reichsrat von Buhl and continued a week later with the estate’s Erste and Grosse Lagen. The team finished picking on September 17. Like elsewhere, yields were tiny, but the wines are concentrated and beautifully aromatic. The 2024 GGs I tasted are strikingly site-specific, with the aromatic Ungeheuer and Pechstein standing out.

2024 PECHSTEIN RIESLING GG | 96 POINTS
The 2024 Riesling Forster Pechstein Grosses Gewächs, grown on basalt in a parcel close to the forest, was fermented in tonneaux, Stück and Doppelstück with 10% in stainless steel. Flint and lemon oil harmonize on the nose. The palate is bright with a lemon balm and chervil backdrop that lends such freshness and poise. This is bottled elegance in 2024.
Drinking window: 2030 – 2060 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: July 2024

2024 KIRCHENSTÜCK RIESLING GG | 95 POINTS
The 2024 Riesling Forster Kirchenstück Grosses Gewächs was made in tonneaux and Stück. A shy nose allows a touch of zest to escape, and more air unlocks chamomile. The palate is pure and pristine with ripe citrus and golden apple, stony and zesty at the same time. This radiates freshness.
Drinking window: 2030 – 2050 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2024 UNGEHEUER RIESLING GG | 95 POINTS
The 2024 Riesling Forster Ungeheuer Grosses Gewächs, from a clayey mix of sandstone, basalt and limestone debris, was fermented in Doppelstück, Stück and tonneaux with just 5% in stainless steel. Subtle fragrances of ripe pear are tempered with citrus. On the palate, lemon and green mandarin zest frame an almost honeyed ripeness. This presents such depth and limestone earthiness with a lasting finish. An understated and elegant Ungeheuer.
Drinking window: 2030 – 2050 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2024 JESUITENGARTEN RIESLING GG | 94 POINTS
The 2024 Riesling Forster Jesuitengarten Grosses Gewächs was made in Doppelstück, Stück and tonneaux with 10% in stainless steel. The aromatics are still yeasty but fresh citrus breaks through. A juicy streak of lemon zest and a pithy mouthfeel linger long on the palate.
Drinking window: 2030 – 2050 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2024 FREUNDSTÜCK RIESLING GG | 93 POINTS
The 2024 Riesling Forster Freundstück Grosses Gewächs was grown on Triassic sandstone with loam and basalt at the surface. It was made in Doppelstück and tonneaux. The bouquet suggests dried apple with an edge of honey and wet earth. That earthiness comes through even more on the palate, which is rounded and pliant without any weight, and finds a nice counterbalance in citrus.
Drinking window: 2028 – 2045 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2024 KIESELBERG RIESLING GG | 93 POINTS
The 2024 Riesling Deidesheimer Kieselberg Grosses Gewächs is from an elevated and gravelly site, made 85% in Stück and tonneaux with the rest in stainless steel. Tart apple perfumes gain generosity from hints of quince, zesty orange and earthy, almost chalky tones. The chalky-zesty mouthfeel carries more apple flavours with a phenolic grip.
Drinking window: 2028 – 2045 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2023 CHARDONNAY RÉSERVE | 92 POINTS
The 2023 Chardonnay Réserve was grown half in Forst, half in Friedelsheim, the latter on
Drinking window: 2028 – 2045 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2025 FORSTER RIESLING | 92 POINTS
The 2025 Riesling Forst is from the pre-harvests of the Grosse Lagen in Forst, namely Ungeheuer, Pechstein and Jesuitengarten, picked chiefly on Triassic sandstone but also limestone debris and basalt. It was made 60% in Doppelstück, 10% in tonneaux and the rest in stainless steel. A slight note of flint blends with zesty lemon and lime. The palate is juicier than the nose suggests, with lively pale plum and bright lemon freshness.
Drinking window: 2028 – 2045 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2025 DEIDESHEIMER RIESLING | 92 POINTS
The 2025 Riesling Deidesheim is from the pre-harvests of the Grosse Lagen in Deidesheim, picked around ten days ahead of the GGs. It was grown on Triassic sandstone with limestone debris, and primarily made in Doppelstück with around one-third in stainless steel. Tart apple peel and citrus zest scents transform into riper, suppler fruit on the palate. The zest remains present around the edges, framing a generous but contoured wine with aromatic freshness.
Drinking window: 2028 – 2045 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2025 VON BUHL RIESLING | 92 POINTS
The 2025 Riesling von Buhl was made from the pre-harvests of the Erste Lagen single sites in the loam, limestone, basalt and sandstone soils of Forst and Deidesheim. A gentle note of flint rises. The palate is pliable and snappy with apple, peach, a lemon edge and sometimes a flicker of passion fruit. This displays notable depth of flavour and citrus drive with a long resonance
Drinking window: 2026 – 2036 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2023 SPÄTBURGUNDER RÉSERVE | 90 POINTS
The 2023 Spätburgunder Réserve is from Deidesheim, Forst and Wachenheim. All fruit was destemmed and aged in new barriques. The smooth, vanilla-scented toastiness of oak surrounds ripe cherry. This juicy red cherry fruit also defines the palate, which is really rounded and supple with pliable, soft tannins, all underlined by that vanilla sheen.
Drinking window: 2026 – 2036 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2025 BONE DRY RIESLING | 89 POINTS
The 2025 Riesling Bone Dry is sourced from across the Pfalz but also contains estate grown fruit. Ripe yellow apple flesh meets a touch of orange on the nose. Peach, plum, yellow apple and citrus fill the mouth and gain zest. This is a generous iteration of this popular cuvée with bright lemon on the finish.
Drinking window: 2026 – 2030 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2025 BONE DRY ROSÉ | 88 POINTS
The 2025 Bone Dry Rosé is a pure Pinot Noir from home-grown and purchased fruit, fermented in a mix of stainless steel and wood. Creamy strawberry aromas set the tone for a generously fruited palate. The palate is smooth and creamy with strawberry compote on the rounded but dry finish.
Drinking window: 2026 – 2030 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026

2025 ARMAND RIESLING KABINETT | 88 POINTS
The 2025 Riesling Armand Kabinett still comes with a little reductive funk. Juiciness on the palate reminds one of apple juice and ripe red apple in general. This just flows unimpeded, with an easy character.
Drinking window: 2026 – 2031 | Anne Krebiehl. Tasting date: August 2026
